ABSTRACT We evaluate the performance of Lyman α forest weak gravitational lensing estimator Metcalf et al. on data from hydrodynamic simulations and ray-trace simulated potentials. compare results to those obtained Gaussian random field Lyα potentials used in previous work. find that is able reconstruct more realistic investigate dependence spectrum signal noise. The non-linearity non-Gaussianity this arising instability hydrodynamics causes a reduction noise by factor ∼2.7 for free ∼1.5 spectra with order unity (comparable current observational data). Compared potentials, using ray-traced N-body incurs further signal-to-noise ∼1.3 at all levels. also observed increase bias reconstructed $5-25{{\ \rm per\ cent}}$, potential increases $20-30{{\ cent}}$. demonstrate methods mitigating these issues including Gaussianization correction which could be real observations.

From linear to non-linear scales: analytical and numerical predictions for the weak lensing convergence
Weak lensing convergence can be used directly to map and probe the dark mass distribution in the universe. Building on earlier studies, we recall how the statistics of the convergence field are related to the statistics of the underlying mass distribution, in particular to the many-body density correlations. We describe two model-independent approximations which provide two simple methods to co...

In this paper we describe the predictions for the smoothed weak lensing shear and aperture-mass of two simple analytical models of the density field: the minimal tree-model and the stellar model. Both models give identical results for the statistics of the 3-d density contrast smoothed over spherical cells and only differ by the detailed angular dependence of the many-body density correlations....
متن کاملLyα ABSORBER CORRELATIONS AND THE “BIAS” OF THE Lyα FOREST
Lyα absorber correlations contain information about the underlying density distribution associated with a particular class of absorbers. As such, they provide an opportunity to independently measure the “bias” of the Lyman alpha forest, i.e. the relationship between H I column density and underlying dark matter density. In these proceedings we use hydrodynamic simulations to investigate whether...
متن کاملStructure in the Lyα Forest
The spatial distribution of Lyα forest absorption systems toward a group of 8, closely spaced QSOs has been analysed and evidence for large scale structure has been found at z = 2.8. Our technique is based on the first and second moments of the transmission probability density function which is capable of identifying and assessing the significance of regions of over-or underdense Lyα absorption...
